MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR 

Gladys Afolayan (Calgary based) is a Afro Texture hair educator with over 20 years of industry experience. She is nationally recognized for her skill and creativity as a braiding and hair colour specialist. A certified and licensed cosmetology instructor and entrepreneur Gladys partnered with the Alberta provincial government to develop Canada’s first accredited Afro-textured hair curriculum to close the gap in the current education. As the founder of Kulture Beauty Collective and the Kulture Institute of Cosmetology, Gladys is passionate about creating inclusive experiences and interactions between stylists and clients from different cultural backgrounds.

Course Content

This course covers: 1.  Introduction to keratin and smoothing systems 2. Afro-textured hair structure and behavior during treatments 3. Product types (formaldehyde vs non-formaldehyde systems) 4. Application techniques and timing 5. Heat control and flat ironing methods 6. Risk factors and safety precautions 7. Client consultation and suitability assessment 8. Maintenance and aftercare protocols Learning Format: 1.  Theory-based instruction 2. Step-by-step guided demonstrations 3. Practical application on mannequins/models 4. Instructor feedback and correction Students will practice: 1.  Proper sectioning and product application 2. Controlled heat usage for sealing treatments 3. Identifying signs of over-processing or damage 4. Customizing treatments based on curl pattern and density
